4 players EAW land skirmish map. This map was submitted to the EAW Map Making Contest in 2006.



Short description:
A 2 vs 2 map (1 vs 1 too) which is full of action and dynamic where team play really is optimal

Background:
I learned so much after I completed my first map (eastwood) and the time came and I started to think of a new unique idea for my next map. After a week I had finally come up with my next idea,
I wanted to create one of the most dynamic maps ever created for EaW without making it a big flat plain, so I sat down in front of my desk and started to draw the very basic layout for my upcoming map.
I wanted to have a map where the players would be able to make a direct attack on the enemy base, two flanks, and two sneak paths. But as the map made progress I saw a need for being able to switch paths,
so the player wouldn't be stuck on one path. For that reason I started to make a few extra paths, all leading into the centre of the map and the other way around. Another thing started to bug me, swamps are usually flat and full of wet terrain,
therefore I had to remove some of the hills I added in the beginning (which served as natural walls) and I had to add lakes, rivers and a few creeks. The map was doing great but something was missing,
I took a look at a few swamp pictures and I noticed that most swamps are covered in vegetation, and the map editor doesn't have a large variation when it comes to trees fitting into a swamp environment, so I had to make due with what I had at my disposal.
The rest was pretty easy, I added some "Props" which would fit into my newly created story for my planet and I worked with some texture which also would fit into the whole story and a sky dome which would reflect my planet's current situation.
I did of course test this map over and over again each time I changed something, and the whole "passage ability" was the worst part,
right after the fact that objects would be "cut" if you placed them on the water surface (I choose not to do so much about this problem since I think it would ruin the theme I created.)
I also chose not to create a planet which is known in the star wars universe, because I would rather come up with something new and original, think of it as artistic liberties
So after a month my map is finally ready.

Story:
Many years ago Civbell used to be a beautiful planet where people were free to do what they pleased. But the Empire soon caught
Civbell's attention and a research team was sent to Civbell to investigate the planet's natural resources
and the empire soon discovered that Civbell was a resource rich planet and only Kessel was able to match Civbell's resource amount. Only a few months later,
the whole planet turned into a huge industry planet. The humans were used as slaves while the Hutts managed to cut a deal with the empire.
Due to all the pollution, the planet turned into a swamp and started to sink.
Many years passed by, and the empire forces on Civbell got more insulated to the rest of the empire, they had a now old communication centre they could use,
in case something would happen. Each month a cargo shuttle would land on Civbell to collect resources and bring supplies to the empire forces.
One day, a new material was found, and the small empire garrison realized
that this material would be the perfect armour for the stromtroopers once it was processed.
The soldiers sent a message to the nearest Empire planet, and requested an immediately pickup of the newly discovered material.
Unfortunately for the empire, the rebels intercepted the message and made sure it never reached the planet. Soon the rebel forces landed their first spies
on the planet to disable all empire external communication and soon the rebels managed to land a whole force of soldiers who started to build their base.
The rebels wasn't there to liberate the humans, they were there to collect the super armour themselves.
The empire soon discovered the rebel base which was still under construction, but empire's base only consisted of a command centre, research facility, and
a barracks. The empire tried to send a distress signal, but they learned that the rebel had sabotaged their communication centre.
Luckily for the empire, the cargo shuttle was due to land soon and then they would be able to get help and bring the new amour material to safety.
But things didn't work out as planned, the shuttle was ambushed by the rebels and the empire only had one choice... to upgrade their outpost to a fully functional military base and fight the rebels.
The empire cannot afford to lose the new amour material and the rebel will have to make this quick before the cargo shuttle is reported missing and the empire would investigate the case, and the humans and hutts (who's neutralization is threatened) most fight for their freedom

Tips'n hints

General:

None of the power plants are protected
No base shields
Both teams should exploit the fact that some of their vehicles can hover above water (ideal for sneak attacks)
Only the mining facility in the top left is near build pads
Both reinforcement points are guarded by the local population
The two teams should try to make a sneak attack on the enemy's power plant
It can be crucial for both teams to capture the centre even though there are very few resources in there
Early in the game it is possible for both teams to sneak in a few soldiers to cause havoc inside the enemy base
Almost every base entrance can get a strong defence but it requires a lot of credits to build a good defence.

Rebel:

The rebels should send 1 squad to capture the mine/resource pad in the bottom right corner
Capture the abandon sensor array outside their base in the centre
Go for the left reinforcement point and secure the area with artillery (high ground VS low ground)
Use R2-D2 to capture any unguarded Turbo laser tower (easy pray)
Use T2-B tanks to prevent the empire from getting the right reinforcement point
3-4 Infiltrators are perfect for taking out the empire's power plant and any other builds which are poorly defended.


Empire
The empire should send 1 squad to capture the mine/resource pad in the top left corner
Go for the right reinforcement point and secure the area
Use speeder bikes early in the game to preventing the rebel forces from securing the right reinforcement point, the abandon sensor array and the mine in the bottom right corner.
Train a few more storm troopers and capture the resource pad in the centre (be quick to back them up with a few AT-ST ASAP)
Try to ambush the left reinforcement point via the map centre and take out the rebel's artillery.

Other:

Vesgarian Swamp is a name I got from a huge Russian swamp called Vasyugan. It is one of the largest swamps in the world and is located in the Tomsk Oblast of the Russian Federation along the left bank of the Ob River. The swamp is also home to a number of some rare species and the production of oil and gas has become a major industry in that area.

Civbell is a name I got from a Phrygian goddess called Cybele. she is some sort of earth goddess, much more can be learned at wikipedia.

there are more than 1300 objects in this map

if you have a good imagination, you'll see the lakes form a running man (I discovered that by coincidence)
